There are so many stories, but something makes me not want to tell them just yet.
...
i found an explanation for why sony took out the dual shock feature in the controllers
apparently sony (along with microsoft) were sued for using rumble features that a company called "immersion" created. long story short, immersion won, microsoft bought a license to keep it, sony was badass and said fuck you
the good: sony is hardcore
the bad: we dont have are beloved rumble! BUT ... logitech has the license and make a controller with dual shock for the ps3. it wont work with every game, but i know it will work with gran turismo HD! and thats all that really matters anymore.
ill probably buy one in the next few days to see if it works with ps2 games (especially socom)
i also found that in the latest ps3 firmware update (1.80) they offer upscaling for ps2 and probably ps1 games. basically, normal tvs are like 480p i think, and everyone knows how sexy our new 1080i (and 1080p, which is better and only bluray is capable of doing right now)
all it does is make the oldness look sexy on hi-def. i dont have a 1080i tv, but i noticed quite a difference playing socom with upscaling.. i used to suffer in game because i could barely make out what i was seeing, and problem is now solved

i found this site pretty amusing
i feel bad for the kids who actually waited in line to see their holy grails smashed
its nice though cuz now u get an idea of how durable the systems are
(the 360 and wii were already smashed after being smacked on the ground. ps3 took a bit more effort from carrot top and his friends)

My take on the next-gen consoles...
First off, there is no best system ... they all have features that make them good in their own way. Also keep in mind that each company made their product for different purposes and there should be a decent amount of evaluating your options before dropping change into a system. So I'm just going to throw some information I picked up to help make things a bit easier. I own a PS3, but have played them all, and I like them all. This isn't a fanboy article ... so enjoy!
(** indicates rumors that I don't know for sure about, but should still be taken into consideration)
::NINTENDO WII::
I'm going to evaluate the most popular of the systems, the Nintendo Wii. This system was the biggest change in marketing technique by Nintendo to make up for the highly unpopular Gamecube. Luckily, their family-oriented, affordable, and revolutionary system has put Nintendo back up top just like in the NES/SNES/N64 era's.
Pros:
- Affordable. 250 dollars is hard to argue with in today's economy (gas prices, constant market inflation, etc.)
- The Wii-mote. Nintendo took a new direction to make their console more interactive than any other. It may not be for everyone, but sales don't lie in a capitalist society!
- Compact design. I can't argue that small and sleek is the new sexy, and neither can you (chances are you have an iPod Nano somewhere in your house, right?)
- Skins. There are tons of skins you can buy to customize your Wii from places such as decalgirl.com. They even have a skin that looks like the original Nintendo!
Cons:
- Graphics. Nintendo is still riding old-school with *slightly* better graphics than the Gamecube. Afterall, it is also known as the Gamecube 1.5
- Friend codes. I hear all about problems with the Wii's online play because of friend codes. I can't say much about this, but it definitely gave me a reason to wait and see if they make any corrections in this area.
- No hard drive. Come on ... if Apple can fit monsterous hard drives in their iPods and every other system has one, then why wouldn't you throw one in the Wii?
- **The Wii-mote. The straps on them break! Not a big deal really, and it has probably been fixed, but it makes me question quality control. The other thing I hear is it doesn't go well with rechargable batteries, even though there is a charger out there for them.
::XBOX 360::
Now for the mid-range system, which actually turns out to be the best for pure gaming purposes! This is also the system most companies prefer because it is a big step from the last generation, but is still similar enough to make production quicker and easier.
Pros:
- Graphics. If it's one thing Microsoft did right it was making an affordable system for hardcore gamers. This has far better graphics than the Wii, for not much more, and actually is about on par (yet a little better) with the PS3.
- Price. For somebody looking for the best system for gaming, this is it, and the price is just right to make it good investment.
- Games. The 360 has been out longer than it's competitors, so it has the most games out at this time. It also means the games we see later on will be taking pushing the system's capabilities even farther long before the Wii or PS3.
- Xbox Live. This has to be one of the greatest things about the 360. Xbox Live is amazing for online gaming simply because it provides a nice user database for everyone to be tied together at all times.
- Customization. The face plates are pretty sweet, you can't deny it. Also, there are a lot of shells you can buy to really change the look of your console, as there were for the original Xbox. There are some skins out there too, but I don't like them nearly as much as a full shell overhaul.
Cons:
- **Reliability. Take a look on eBay ... how many broken Xbox 360s do you see on there? A LOT! I know many of it's problems may have been fixed, but I can't really say. I believe they are prone to overheating as well. Sure, Microsoft has made the warranty longer, but I don't see myself trusting one for the next 7 years until they make the Xbox 720 ...
- Hard drive. We all know how the hard drive had many problems in the early days, and though it has been fixed, there could be a few roaches to come around over time. Also, what are we supposed to do with 20gb? I bought FFXI for PS2 back in the day, and you had to buy the 40gb HDD to play it ... well the 360 has half that, and FFXI is on it. That doesn't make a very good impression on me. Though they do have the new "Elite" system, but I see even more overheating in the 360's future.
- The controller. The Wii-mote has it's wild nunchuck design, the PS3 has the SIXAXIS system ... the 360 has the same thing from the last generation ... in white. Not really a big deal, but they didn't get to into revolutionizing the industry like the other two have.
:
LAYSTATION 3::
I guess you could call this the holy grail of systems. It has been the most anticipated system of them all, it is the most technologically advanced of them all, and it is the most balanced of them all ... it's also the most expensive. First I'm going to give you MY reasons for picking this sweet piece of machinery..
I picked it because it was designed almost like a super computer ... it is really meant to be a computer, a home entertainment system, and a game console all in one. While it is expensive now, it could save me thousands when I decide to move out. For a few years my PS2 was our DVD player until we got the money for a standalone device, so it will be used to it's full potential. I also have never had the privelage of getting a console before having a large choice of games, so now I can get games as they come out. This made it worth the price for me more than anything ... it makes me feel like the day my dad brought home my Super Nintendo
Pros:
- Graphics. The PS3 has some of the best graphics out there. They aren't quite as good as the 360 graphics, but they are more than acceptable for the new generation of gaming.
- Bluray. You get a gaming system with a Bluray player for 600 bucks. That's cheaper than buying a Bluray player alone ... so basically you get the best in high definition available on the market for a lower price, AND you get to have the same greatness with your games.
- SIXAXIS. A little 360, a little Wii ... it's right in between. It adds Wii-like capabilities to the classic controller, fun fun fun. Right now it doesn't really have too much use, though I did find it fun for Tony Hawk Project 8, so I know it has potential.
- Final Fantasy. Sorry, I just love the series, so I had to put it here.
Cons:
- Price. I didn't even have to tell you this.
- Size. Some people complain about the size, thought it doesn't really bother me. I must say it does look like an old Atari sitting over by my TV, but it's still cool.
- Overheating. I personally haven't had trouble with it, but the one in the display case at work constantly needs to be reset because they won't put an intercooler on it. But most people aren't running their systems 24/7, though it could happen with Linux porting.
- WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE DUAL SHOCK?!!!!?!?!!?>@!!>!?3.2rfewfvhj
Just kidding. I won't really miss the dual shock controller ... it was fun while it lasted though.
Anyways, I have to get back to NFS: Carbon, ripping around in my Dodge Charger
PEACE
